The most difficult thing I have had to learn yet is the cranial nerves. It is, of course, the final thing we have been taught in Anatomy. Due to its difficulty I've decided to help the rest of you by showing how I have learned...am learning them.
Cranial Nerves
There are 12 cranial nerves (CN) in total.
I - Olfactory
II - Optic
III - Oculomotor
IV - Trochlear
V - Trigeminal
VI - Abducens
VII - Facial
VIII - Vestibulocochlear
IX - Glossopharyngeal
X - Vagus
XI - Accessory
XII - Hypoglossal
Yeah. It's as scary as I said it was. However, the lovely way to remeber this is:
On, On, On They Traveled And Found Voldemort Guarding Very Ancient Horcruxes
Now that helps but ensure you know the actual names of the CN too. This assists in keeping them in order.

Functions of Cranial Nerves
Next is the functions of the CN. This is important to know what they do when they get to where they are going.
This follows cranial nerve order, as in the first sensory matches up to cranial nerve I - Olfactory, but the capitalized letter tells us if it's sensory, motor, or both.
Severus Snape Meets Malfoy But Mad Bellatrix Stays Behind Bushes Misusing Magic

the Order Cranial Nerves Exit the Brain
So to make things complicated the CN leave the brain in a specific order. In this case the capitalized letters again are the name of the CN.
Oh, Oh, Oh That Trick hAd Fred Versus George Vanishing All Hermione's things
**things has no nerve associated, it's only there for the sentence to make sense

Summary
My plan of attack on the final is to make a table and write out the first the cranial nerves in order then if they are sensory, motor or both. Use the order they exit only if I have to.
The next thing I have to study is where exactly they leave the brain and exit the skull. All those foramen(s).
Happy Studying!
